May 1, 2018 Research and Evidence Supporting LGBTQ+ children and young people at risk of child sexual exploitation guidance for professionals BriefingsBy Victim Support, National Police Chief’s Council Download Research highlights that children and young people who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning, plus (LGBTQ+) face numerous factors that may result in them being vulnerable to, or victims of, child sexual exploitation (CSE). However, the Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation Prevention Programme also recognise that there is disparity in the way children and young people who identify as LGBTQ+ and who are experiencing CSE are identified, responded to and safeguarded. This document will explore reasons why children and young people who identify as LGBTQ+ may go undetected by professionals, the additional barriers they may face in reporting abuse and will present practical tips to improve identification, reporting and protection.
