March 24, 2021 Audio Visual, Learning and Reflections, Risk Risk assessing child (sexual) exploitation PublicationBy Dr Helen Beckett Risk Assessment - Presentation Slides Download On March 24th 2021, the Tackling Child Exploitation (TCE) Support Programme hosted its fourth community of practice (CoP) event, attended by the TCE programme team, Delivery Partners and BSP alumni. The focus was on sharing key themes identified from two years of working with local areas delivering Bespoke Support Programmes. In this session, Dr Helen Beckett, Director, Safer Young Lives Research Centre at the University of Bedfordshire, focuses on how we frame what we see in terms of child exploitation and extra familial harm: what are we seeing, what are we not seeing and how are we talking about young people’s lives. Learning around Child Sexual Exploitation risk assessments – and relevance to other forms of harm – are considered and a critique of issue-specific risk assessments & appropriateness of use is offered along with an exploration of more holistic assessments of risk/harm.
